Theodore Charles 'Ted' Gunn

Theodore “Ted” Charles Gunn, 90, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, died there Tuesday, November 30, 2004.

He was born in Pittsburgh, February 7, 1914, a son of the late Theodore J. and Sarah Beck Gunn.  He married Elizabeth M. Shepard September 29, 1934 and she preceded him in death September 22, 1994.

He was a 1933 graduate of Meadville High School and was employed at Talon from 1934 to 1938 when he began work with the U. S. Postal Service in the Meadville Post Office.  He entered World War II with the U.S. Navy Seabees having served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations including the Solomon Islands and New Caledonia.  He returned to the Meadville Post Office after the war and retired in 1969 as Superintendent of Mails with 31 years of service.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a member and Past Commander of Harm Jan Huidekoper Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2006, active in Boy Scouting for many years at the Troop and District levels, including Scout Master of Troop 247 and received scoutings highest honor, the Silver Beaver Award.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth T. Gunn and his wife Nancy of Saegertown, 7 grandchildren, Diana Rudd, Karen Gunn, Tammie Groene, Kelly, K.C., Michael, and Stephen Gunn, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 nephews, Tom & Steve Gunn.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by 1 son, Victor C. “Jack” Gunn, and 2 brothers, Thomas J. and Paul J. Gunn.

Visiting hours will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral and committal service will be held at 11 a.m.

Officiating will be the Rev. Brian Jensen, pastor of First Presbyterian Church.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, 1087 Park Ave., Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., or The First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., all of Meadville, PA 16335.
