Theodore L. (Ted) Walczak

Theodore L. (Ted) Walczak, 82, of Meadville died Monday, January 24, 2022 at UPMC Hamot.

He was born May 22, 1939 in Erie, a son of Theodore Lewis Lugolenski and Mary (Ferreti) Lugolenski Walczak Fleek.  He had been married to Wanda Lesh and subsequently married Janet Caldwell Bayer August 11, 1995.

Ted was a 1957 graduate of Academy High School, Erie.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1957 to 1959.  He was a barber for over 60 years.  He began his career in Erie and then the remaining part of his career was as owner and operator of Ted’s Barber Shop in Blooming Valley and Meadville.

Ted was a member of St. Paul’s Reformed Church where he was a former choir member and enjoyed playing the drums.  He enjoyed fishing, small wood carving, formerly was a member of Yesterday’s Sound Barbershop Chorus and played the drums in the McGowan family band.  He had a love of Jazz and Gospel music.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Janet, include two daughters, Tracy Auell ( Greg Zastawney) of Franklin and Kelli Van Beest (Brad) of Tucson, AZ; two step-daughters, Pamela Gordon (John) of Titusville and Lona Granda (Ernie) of Conneaut Lake; nine grandchildren, Lynsey, Natalie, Alaina, Jacob, Alexandra (Anthony), Robby, Nńeka (fiance Tyler), Damien, and Joseph Paul “JP”; a great-granddaughter, Willow; a brother, James Walczak (Remle) of Fairview; a step-sister, Jane McQuillen (Ray) of Fairview; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his adopted father, Constant Walczak and his step-father, Preston Fleek.

Calling hours will be Friday, January 28th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Hasenkopf of St. Paul’s Reformed Church officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by VFW Post 2006.
