Thomas Dwight Baker, 73, of Toledo, OH, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Wesbury United Wesbury Community.
He was born April 8, 1937 in Meadville a son of Gerald E. and Jeannette L. Shellito Baker.
Tom graduated from Linesville Conneaut Summit High School in 1955 and then enlisted and served in the Air Force from 1955-1958. After his military service, he returned to Harmonsburg and worked at Channellock, Inc. in Meadville. Later, he enrolled at Edinboro University and worked for several years at Meadville Medical Center as an orderly and surgical assistant. He then enrolled and graduated from the University of Toledo and was employed as an elementary school teacher in Toledo, OH for many years. Following his retirement, he continued to substitute teach in Toledo and Michigan schools.
Tom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he attended the Toledo II Ward. He enjoyed family history and genealogy. He leaves behind many friends in the church that loved him dearly.
He is survived by a sister, Marlene Patterson of Meadville, PA; a brother, Richard Baker of Saegertown, PA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, David Baker, Donald Baker and an infant brother and one sister, Dorothy Giordano.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 12 - 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. The funeral and committal service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Bishop Michael Welter, officiating. Military honors will be provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
