Thomas E. Beers

December 19, 1940 — March 15, 2006

Thomas E. (Tom) Beers, 65, of 2 Park Ave., Meadville, was received in Heaven on Wed., March 15, 2006, from the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, after a sudden illness.

He was born in Meadville Dec. 19, 1940, a son of the late Kenneth A. and Dorothy Hartman Beers.  He married Carol Wettach Sept. 10, 1961, and she survives.

Tom was a 1960 graduate of Meadville High School, and served one enlistment with the U. S. Army from 1960 to 1962.  He was first employed at Channellock from 1964 to 1976, and subsequently worked for Crawford Central District retiring in 2000 as Director of Support Services, after 25 years of service.

He loved his family, enjoyed life, and was a friend to all who knew him.  He enjoyed working with young people, was a volunteer with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, was a past president of UCIP and received their Outstanding Service and Commitment to People with Disabilities Award, was a Boy Scout Leader with Troop #228 for 10 years, and was a foster parent to 20 foster children.

Tom was a wood worker, and had made many furniture pieces for his family.  He enjoyed history and westerns, and loved spending time at his cottage on Canadohta Lake.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, a life Member of Meadville Elks Lodge #219, where he had been honored as Elk of the Year in  1988-89, a life member of the Meadville Club, a member of the Meadville Zoning Board, and a member of the Building and Grounds Committee of Wesbury United Methodist Community.

Survivors in addition to his wife of 44 years, include a daughter Deborah Faulkinberry and her children Jennifer and Travis of Allentown, 3 sons, Scott A. Beers and his wife Kimberly and their children Joshua and Heather of Flemington, NJ, Robert J. Beers and his wife Darla and their children Hannah and Sarah of Fleetwood, PA, and James T. Beers and his wife Barbara and their children Lindsay and Gregory of Saegertown, a foster son, Thomas J. Steele of Crainesville, 2 sisters, Barbara Freyermuth of Cochranton, and Linda Reinhardt of Meadville.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth A. Beers, Jr.

A visitation will be Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where a memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m.

Officiating will be the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. William L. Brown, Associate Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church.

The family suggests memorials my be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 828 N. Main St., Meadville, PA 16335, the Elks Scholarship Fund, 15438 State Hghwy. #86, Meadville, PA 16335, or The Boys Scouts Tribute Fund, French Creek Council, 1815 Robison Road West, Erie, PA 16509.
