Thomas (Tom) Edward Aylsworth, 94, of 728 Wesley Way, Meadville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Meadville Medical Center.
He was born July 9, 1918 in Meadville a son of Bayard and Ruth Margaret Muckinhaupt Aylsworth. Tom was a Meadville High School Class of 1936 graduate. He spent his entire working life in Meadville at American Viscose, Westinghouse and finally Sunbeam/Seco Warwick as head of security for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as an officer in the U.S. Army Coast Artillery stationed on the island of Taboga at the Panama Canal.
He enjoyed bowling and golf in his younger years and was an avid square dancer in later years in both Meadville and his winter home in Ormond Beach, FL. Tom danced and taught others to dance until he was 90 and was a member of Stone United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, Otto Ethridge, he was preceded in death by his first wife Eleanor Stumpp Aylsworth in 1968 and is survived by his widow Anna Schlossnagle Rose Aylsworth whom he married in 1971. The third child of a large family, his brothers included: Roland Aylsworth, Raymond Ethridge and Otto Ethridge Jr., all deceased. His sisters included: Marilyn Ethridge, Jeanne McLallen, Joyce Mook, Virginia Kincaid and Patricia Henry all deceased and Lillian Mook of Syracuse, NY survives.
He is also survived by a son, Jack Aylsworth and his wife Kathleen of San Diego, CA; a daughter, Connie Handy and her husband Rich of Meadville; a stepson, Butch Rose and his wife Gail of Saegertown; two grandchildren, Sean Aylsworth of Chicago and Jodi Barr and her husband Tim of Saegertown; a great grandson, Dante Barr and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
