Thomas J. Diehl, 76, a retired contractor of Meadville, died yesterday at City Hospital of a heart ailment. He had been ill about a week.
Son of Henry and Anna Willy Diehl, he was born April 4, 1880, in West Mead Township and lived his early life in Woodcock Township, where he worked on a farm and in a sawmill. He married the former Elizabeth Dornhoefer in 1904.
In 1919, he moved to Meadville and became a building contractor. He retired in 1940.
Mr. Diehl was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, the church board of trustees, and the Zion Churchmen's Brotherhood; Meadville Kiwanis Club, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and was a director of the Home Building and Loan Assn.
Surviving are his widow; a brother, Rodney of San Diego, CA; two nephews, Floyd and Rodney, both of Meadville; and two nephews and a niece in Cincinnati, OH.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
