Thomas L. Getz

Thomas L. Getz, 74, of Meadville, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Cleveland Clinic.

He was born May 17, 1941 in Petersburg, WV, a son of Paul L. and Blanche Feaster Getz.  He married Jane Hincken June 21, 1979 and she survives.

Tom was a 1959 graduate of Fort Hill High School, Cumberland, MD and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.  He was employed by PPG beginning in Cumberland in 1963 and retired from the Meadville plant in 2000.

Tom was a life-member and former fire chief of Vernon Central Hose Company.  He formerly enjoyed hunting and traveling by motorcycle where he traveled to 49 of the states.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Jane of 36 years, include a son, Mark Getz of Conneautville; a daughter, Cathy Smith and her husband Joseph of Meadville; his mother, Blanche Getz of Cumberland, MD; three grandchildren, Lucy Smith, Kasey Smith, and Maxwell Getz; a sister, Andra Gross and her husband George of Fairplay, MD; and nieces and nephews.

Per Tom’s wishes, cremation will take place and there are no services.
