Thomas N. Cranston, 60, of Carlisle, PA, passed away peacefully at Carlisle Regional Medical Center on Sunday, January 9, 2011.
He was born in Aberdeen, MD, March 7, 1950, a son of the late Norman and Audrey (Sauseville) Cranston. He was also preceded in death May 25, 1999 by his wife, Jane E. Shafer Cranston, the younger daughter of the late Governor and Mrs. Raymond P. Shafer.
Tom was a graduate of Carlisle High School and the University of Scranton, retiring from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue after 22 years of service.
He was an accomplished poet, with the publication of more than 60 poems. Early in his adult life, he took initial vows with the Dominican Order, and was affiliated with St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church of Carlisle.
Survivors include three sisters and several nieces, all of Pennsylvania, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law of Meadville.
Cremation was chosen with a committal service to be held in St. John's Cemetery, Union Township at the convenience of the family at a later date.
The Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville is handling local arrangements.
