Thomas P. Wentworth, 72, of Edinboro and formerly of Guys Mills, passed away, Monday, January 23, 2017 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born in Meadville March 5, 1944, a son of H. Paul and Marie J. Laibe Wentworth.
Tom was a 1962 graduate of Randolph East Mead High School and a 1966 graduate of Edinboro State College with a bachelor’s degree in art education. He furthered his studies at the University of Florida where he received his degree in Building Construction and Architectural Design. Tom was a proud Veteran of the Vietnam War. He earned the rank of captain and served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1972, including service in the U.S. National Guard.
After graduation he provided construction management services for the Mexico Pavilion at Disney’s Epcot Center, the Orlando International Airport, and several buildings at the University of Central Florida.. Prior to his work in construction, he was an art teacher in Hammondsport, NY and Beaver Falls. He retired from the PA Department of General Services, Bureau of Construction of the Western PA Region as a building construction inspector.
Tom was a friend of Bill W’s, life-member of the Black Ash Sportsman’s Club, member of the Millcreek American Legion Post 773, Pennsylvania Trappers Assn. and the National Trappers Assn. Tom was a highly creative and gifted artist who demonstrated his talents in many areas including, home design, photography, drawing, jewelry, stained glass, and wood carving. He particularly enjoyed creating amazing Halloween costumes, and his efforts won Grand Prizes in two Walt Disney World Halloween competitions and also Rosie O'Grady's Good Time Emporium's Halloween Grand Prize at Church Street Station in Orlando, Florida. He was of the Catholic faith and an avid fly fisherman.
Survivors include a son, Michael Wentworth, his wife Johanna, and a grandson expected in June of Dallas, TX; a daughter, Erin Wentworth and her fiancé Patrick of Austin, TX; his life-partner, Helen Shaeffer of Edinboro; three brothers, William C. Wentworth and his wife Carole of Eagle, CO, John R. Wentworth and his wife Lynn of Guys Mills, and James L. Wentworth of Cochranton; two nephews, Paul Wentworth and Jeffrey Wentworth and his wife Anna Rita; a niece, Amy Wentworth; two great-nephews, Sam and William Matteo; Helen’s sons, Drew Danielson and Adam Danielson and his wife Michelle and their children.
Calling hours will be Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
The funeral service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Daniel Prez of St. Hippolyte Church, officiating and military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.
Interment will be in St. Hippolyte Cemetery.
