Thomas S. Grundy, Sr.

Thomas S. Grundy, Sr., 70, of Guys Mills died at home Sunday, April 29, 2018.

He was born in Meadville, November 13, 1947 a son of Clarence G. and Ruth W. Applegate Grundy.  He married Mary E. Poly May 3, 1969 and she survives.

He was a 1965 graduate of Randolph East Mead High School and a 1974 graduate of the University of North Florida.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the US Navy from 1967-1974 stationed in the Philippines, Antarctica and Jacksonville, FL.  Following his military service he returned to Meadville and was the head of the Crawford County Juvenile Detention Center that was originally located on Water Street and then worked at the Crawford County Jail until his retirement in 2009.

Tom loved to travel and visited all 50 states and Italy, Japan, Philippines and Antarctica.  He also loved spending time with his grandsons and enjoyed golfing, fishing, target practice, woodworking and was very particular about maintaining his home and yard.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Mary, of 48 years, include: two sons, Thomas Grundy, Jr. and his wife Jennifer and their sons, Joseph and Jonathan of Saegertown and Michael Grundy and his wife Shana and their sons, Troy and Ryan of Denver, CO; a sister, Phyllis Hank of Orlando, FL; two sisters-in-law, JoAnn Smith and her husband Tom of Saegertown and Linda Poly of Guys Mills, three nieces, a nephew and four great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, William Hank.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 2nd at 11 a.m. at St. Hippolyte Church, 25997 State Hwy 27, Guys Mills with Fr. Daniel Prez, celebrant.

Interment with military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2206 will be in St. Hippolyte Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Hippolyte Church (Building Fund), 25997 State Hwy 27, Guys Mills, PA 16327 or Huidekoper VFW Post #2006, 1045 S. Morgan Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
