Thurman C. Shilling

June 28, 1888 — December 23, 1982

Thurman C. Shilling, 94, of Meadville, died at City Hospital Thursday, December 23, 1982.  He had been in failing health for two years.

He was born in Cochranton, June 28, 1888, a son of John and Elizabeth Klippel Shilling.  He married Gertrude Freyermuth October 26, 1910.  She died December 3, 1968.  He subsequently married Alice Weidaw December 18, 1969.

Mr. Shilling was self-employed as a building contractor for over 60 years.

A life member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, he served for over 20 years on the Meadville school board.  He also was a member of Crawford Masonic Lodge 234 and a former member of Cussewago IOOF.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Betty) Miller of Meadville and Mrs. Donald (Jeane) Bare of Lusby, MD; two sons, T. Robert of Cochranton and Donald D. of Philadelphia; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Joy Link of Meadville and Mrs. Joanne Crawford of Easton; two step sons, John C. Brittain of Sharon and W. James Brittain of Arlington, VA; two brothers, Hugh of Meadville and Lawrence of Youngstown; sixteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Cochranton Cemetery.
