A former principle of Meadville Area Senior High School was killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident in West Mead Township.
Tom R. Knorr, 76, of Meadville, was killed along Route 322, three miles southeast of Meadville Tuesday, according to state police in Meadville.
Mr. Knorr was born in Meadville, September 22, 1910, a son of William and Irene MaHood Knorr. He married Emaruth Burkhardt August 29, 1939. She preceded him in death January 15, 1985.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School and a 1932 graduate of Allegheny College. He received his master's degree in education from Pennsylvania State University in 1942. He received his principle certification from the University of Pittsburgh.
He was employed by Talon, Inc. from 1933 to 1937. He was employed as a biology teacher in Meadville Public Schools in 1937. He taught math and science in the vocational school from 1942 to 1956. He was assistant principle of Meadville High School from 1956 to 1963. He was principle of Meadville Area Senior High School from 1956 to 1970. He was a math teacher from 1970 to 1972 and a guidance counselor from 1972 until his retirement in 1976. He also served as faculty manager.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, church elder and was a former secretary and president of the church's board.
He was also a member of numerous professional and social organizations and clubs.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Carolyn) Stephens of Swarthmore; one son, W. Barnett Knorr of Cranberry and three grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
