Valeria M. (Sue) Jones, 98, formerly of Harmonsburg and a resident of Rolling Fields, passed away there Wednesday, November 27, 2019. She was born September 3, 1921 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Howard and Nellie McCard Sterling. She married Paul H. Jones April 19, 1942 and he preceded her in death October 17, 1984. Her greatest joy and love was for her husband, sons, family and friends but always acknowledged first in her life was her Lord Jesus Christ. At the age of 48 she fulfilled her dream, after traveling over 12,000 miles in one year to Erie, she received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed for 15 years by the former Meadville City Hospital and for 15 years as an office nurse for Dr. David Kirkpatrick and Dr. John Nesbitt, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Harmonsburg United Methodist Church for over 75 years where she held many positions in all phases of the church including youth groups, board member, United Methodist Women, community vacation bible school and Wednesday bible study. She was a former member of the Wesbury Board of Directors, member of the 57 year old Towne Club of which she co-founded, volunteer at the Meadville Area Free Clinic, long-time volunteer with Hospice of Crawford County, member of the Red Hat Society, and attended the Lakeland Area Senior Center. She loved visiting the sick and elderly, especially those in nursing homes. Survivors include three sons, Paul Jones of Cleveland, OH, Darryl Jones (Gina) of Meadville, and Lynn Jones (Lisa) of Dicksonburg; six grandchildren, Lance Jones of Cleveland, Tammy Jones of Erie, Lynsey Jones of Meadville, Alexis Gerhart of Columbus, OH, Skylar Jones of Erie and Leah Jones of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; two step-granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Eva Jones of Meadville, Louise Walker of Meadville, and Kathryne Jones of Meadville who became her loving sister for over 75 years; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Leslie Jones; her twin brother, Val Sterling; a daughter-in-law, Della Jones; a half-brother, Harold Sterling; three brothers-in-law, Samuel and Webster Jones and Benjamin Walker; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Overton. Calling hours will be Sunday, December 1st from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and Monday, December 2nd from 10-11 a.m. at WAID-COLEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 12422 CONNEAUT LAKE RD., CONNEAUT LAKE. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Revs. James Tubbs, Russell Hines, and Joseph Rial officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
