Vallaise R. (Doggie) Gruber, Jr., 75, of Linesville, died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at UPMC – Horizon, Greenville, PA.
He was born December 16, 1935 in Saltsburg, PA a son of Vallaise R. and Thelma Williams Gruber, Sr. He married Margaret Johanne McJunkin December 30, 1961 and she preceded him in death October 27, 2009.
He, along with his wife owned and operated the Crystal Lake Inn in Hartstown and his daughter continues there today. He previously had worked at Greenville Tube Co. for 13 years and Greenville Steel Car Co. for 25 years.
He was of the Presbyterian Faith. He served in the US Army, was a member of Greenville VFW Post #3374, Linesville American Legion Post #462, Greenville Elks Lodge #145 and the Greenville Steel Car Bowling League. He enjoyed hunting in the Pennsylvania mountains and farming in Atlantic for 45 years.
Survivors, include: a daughter, Valerie K. Burdett and her husband Russ of Hadley; a son Rodney R. Gruber of Linesville; a sister, Margaret Marie Trezona and her husband Joe of Meadville and two brothers, Randall Gruber and his wife Nancy of Atlantic and Lynn Gruber and his wife Joanne of Greenville and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Calling hour will be Saturday from 10 – 11 a.m. with the memorial service following at 11 a.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake with Rev. Bryan J. Powell, Pastor of Linesville Presbyterian Church, officiating.
