Vera Louise Crispin, 94, of 752 Albright Dr., Meadville, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Meadville Medical Center.
She was born May 6, 1914 in Detroit, MI, a daughter of the late William Robert and Vera Irene Travers Krieghoff. She married Robert L. Crispin June 18, 1940 and he preceded her in death August 14, 2007.
Vera was a 1938 graduate of the University of Colorado where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Delta Phi Alpha, honorary German Fraternity, Phi Sigma Iota, honorary Romance Language Fraternity, and Kappa Delta Pi, honorary Education Fraternity. She had been a teacher in Armada, MI and at the Crawford Central School District.
A member of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Meadville, Vera was a member of the Meadville Medical Auxiliary and its predecessor Meadville City Hospital Auxiliary for nearly 40 years, including serving as president in 1978 and 1979.
Survivors include three children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren: her daughter Karen and her husband Richard Jessup of Providence, RI; and their children Dana Jessup and her husband Brian Turner and their children Lydia, Ella, and Nate, of Milton, MA; Amy Scaramella and her husband Luke and their daughters Karaline and Hope, of East Greenwich, RI; and Kara Jessup and her husband Matthew Della Croce and their daughter Madeleine Vera, of Stamford, CT; her son Robert and his wife Kathy Frisk Crispin of Scarborough, ME; and their children Jon Crispin and his wife Kirsten, and their daughters Kendall and Jenna, of Northbrook, IL; Debbie Duryee and her husband Burr, and their children Crispin, Piper, and C.C., of Cape Elizabeth, ME; and Heather Crispin and her husband Tyler Polk of West Hartford, CT; and her son Jon Crispin and his wife Cristine Smith and their son Peter, of Pelham, MA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Travers Krieghoff.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service celebrating Vera’s life will be held at a date and time to be announced.
