Verna Mae Brocklehurst Hill Shortly after noon, on Thursday March 29th, 2018 the curtain fell on a well lived life spanning 98 years. After graduating from Stoneboro High School she received her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Cleveland, Ohio Franklin School of Practical Nursing. She began her nursing career in the Sandy Lake office of Dr. Vogen and continued to use her training at various locations after she married, started a family and moved. At each of the cities in which she lived, she was an active member of the local Presbyterian congregation. Her involvement began as a Sunday School teacher in Cambridge Springs, PA and later led her to join a Goldsboro, NC church mission to a hospital in Kenya. Her long life saw her married and widowed three times. Her first marriage was to George Paige. She and her husband were active in various social clubs and when a local dance club was not available, they along with other couples, formed The Napenthe Dance Club which became a popular venue for its members. After Mr. Paige passed, she married a local college professor, Jacob Ziegler. His career led to several moves which fit into their love of travel and cruising. They retired in Goldsboro, NC where he passed a few years later. She continued to be active with her church which is where she became acquainted with her third husband, C.T. Hill a retired federal employee. Their travel adventures continued, taking them to South America, Europe and China. In all, she had been to all the U.S. states and 29 foreign countries. With her passing she is survived by her two sons: Earl Paige and his wife Kris of Fort Collins, CO, Bruce Paige and his wife Xiaoyan of Kunming, China, two step-daughters: Barbara Hill of Wilmington, NC and Peggy Hill Hemenway of Goldsboro, NC along with grandchildren: Brian Paige, Terence Paige, Jennifer Paige Maldonado, Michael Paige, Jennifer Paige McNamara, Wendy Stencil, Chris Hemenway, Matthew Hemenway and six great grandchildren.
