Verna Mae Engstrom

Verna Mae Engstrom, 86 of Stoneboro, Passed away on March 4, 2021 at Avalon Springs in Mercer. Verna Mae was born in Fairview Twp on February 10, 1935 to the late Burdell and Mildred (Bestwick) Thompson. She worked for many years at Lakeview High School as a secretary, at Shannon’s Candy Kitchen in Mercer, as well as was a homemaker for her husband and family. Verna Mae married her beloved husband, Richard Engstrom in 1955, he preceded her in death. Verna Mae was a longtime member of the Stoneboro United Methodist Church and was very active over the years. She was a selfless loving person and enjoyed helping others. She enjoyed baking and volunteering for Meals on Wheels. She also volunteered for many years at the Stoneboro Fair and as a Poll Worker. Most of all Verna Mae loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verna Mae is survived by her children, Brian Engstrom and wife Michelle of Stoneboro, Keith Engstrom and wife Joyce of Sandy Lake, Kevin Engstrom of Stoneboro, and Lori Winner of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren Erin Cunningham, Kristen Buffington, Jessica Webster, and Jarret Engstrom; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Wilma Weir; and several nieces and nephews. Verna Mae was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. Stoneboro. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 10, at the Stoneboro United Methodist Church, 32 Lake Street, Stoneboro, with Pastor Janet Pratt, church pastor, officiating.
