Vernon Tim Smith, 63, of Harmonsburg, died Saturday, November 1, 2008 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 20, 1945 in Ashtabula, OH, a son of Vernon H. and Dora Betty English Smith. A U.S. Coast Guard Veteran, he worked as a Taxi Cab driver in Williamsburg, VA for 15 years and subsequently worked for his brother Jerauld at Smittys Towing until his illness. He was life member of Classic Iron of Meadville and the North American Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and classic cars and muzzle loader and bow hunting. Survivors include his mother, Dora Betty Smith of Harmonsburg; 3 children, Tina Smith-Armour and her husband James of Meadville, V. Timothy Preston and his wife Jennifer of Cochranton, and Joyce Grippi and her husband Robert of Bentonville, AR; a sister, Cheryl M. Smith of Lynchburg, VA; 2 brothers, Terry L. Smith and his wife Kathy of Saegertown and Jerauld L. Smith and his wife Janey of Harmonsburg; 5 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, James M. Smith. No services are currently planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Conneaut Lake.
