Viola Maxine Curtis Murkens

Viola Maxine Curtis Murkens, 82, formerly of Alden Street, Meadville and a resident of Cordia Commons since June 2000, died there Sunday, July 24, 2005 following several years of declining health.

She was born July 1, 1923 in Pierpont, OH a daughter of Sidney L. and Mary E. Thompson Curtis.  She married Harold J. Murkens February 21, 1942 and he preceded her in death May 2, 1998.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and Order of Eastern Star.  She was a life-long supporter of the Crawford County Humane Society and she loved all animals in general and cats in particular.  She enjoyed bingo, cards, reading and she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors, include two sons, David W. Murkens and his wife Dianne of Meadville, Darrell J. Murkens and his wife Jana of Hendersonville, NC; one daughter, Donita Chace of Rockledge, FL; one sister, Judy Ring of Coco, FL; six grandchildren, Wendy Bailey, David Murkens, Jr., Heather Barnhart, Kevin Kramer, Cassandra Chace and Andrew Murkens; eight great grandchildren, Brandon and Logan Bailey, Joshua, Jeremy and Hannah Murkens and Kaitlyn, Breanna & Kirsten Barnhart; several nieces and nephews especially Tammy Ring of Conneaut, OH; a special friend Wilma B. of Meadville and several dear friends at Cordia Commons.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Stuart and Jerry; one sister, Georgene and a son-in-law, Calvin Chace.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 1-3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral and committal service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Solomon, Pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, officiating.

Burial will be in Spring Cemetery, Springboro, PA.
