Viola S. Maines

March 17, 1912 — September 12, 2004

Viola S. Maines, 92, of 12107 N. Wayland Road, Meadville died Sunday, September 12, 2004 at Beverly Health Care Cambridge Springs.

She was born in Meadville, March 17, 1912, a daughter of Leslie and Emma Jane Hamilton Smith.  She married Jess Maines October 3, 1933 and he preceded her in death September 17, 1988.

She worked as a cashier and in the Meat room of Loblaws and then Riverside Market for 25 years, retiring in 1976.

She was a graduate of Blooming Valley High School, a member of the Grottoettes, VFW Post #2006 Auxiliary and Wayland Baptist Church.  She enjoyed crocheting afgans, her family, travel, nature and crossword puzzles.

Survivors, include one daughter, Joyce M. Andrews of Lake City; one son, Richard J. Maines and his wife Jill of Meadville; three grandchildren, James Andrews, Richard Andrews and Sharon Lybrook and seven great grandchildren, Jarred, Ryan, Aaron and Austin Andrews and Jacqueline, Cody and Joseph Lybrook.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold Smith, Stanley Smith and Wilfred Smith and three sisters, Lena Mattocks, Virginia Goodman and Lucinda VanSlyke.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Harlan A. Nefstead, Pastor of Wayland Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Kiser Hill Cemetery, East Mead Twp.
