Mrs. Violet Marie Mook Caldwell, 90, of 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville, formerly of 11362 Williamson Road, Meadville, went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 31, 2009.
Violet was born in Meadville on September 23, 1918. She was the daughter of Daniel and Thelma (Turner) Mook. Violet married Roger F. Caldwell on August 18, 1937. Roger preceded her in death on September 14, 2002.
Violet graduated from Meadville Area High School in 1936. She then began working in a factory at the Shulock Division of Talon. Violet later worked at Saegertown Components, Meadville Forging and Neason Hill School.
Violet was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Meadville and served there as a Deaconess and Sunday School Teacher. She faithfully attended the Church’s MCR Class and acted as the Director of the Children’s Department. She was also a member of the Gideons International, was a counselor at Camp Judson and served on the board of the French Creek Association.
For many years, Violet was an active volunteer at the Red Cross and Wesbury United Methodist Community. She enjoyed teaching Vacation Bible School and sharing her love of her Heavenly Father with all people, young and old.
Violet is survived by three children, son Daniel W. Caldwell and his wife Ethel of Mesa, Arizona, daughter Nancy L. Mason and her husband Rev. William of Greenville, South Carolina, and daughter Donna M. Cerne and her husband William of Meadville, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her son-in-law John P. Jones of Frostburg, Maryland, 17 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Roger, of 65 years, and parents, Violet was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Meyers and her daughter, Darlene Jones.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. The service will be officiated by Rev. Gerald Walton, Pastor of the First Baptist Church and Rev. William Mason, son-in-law. The committal service and interment will follow at Greendale Cemetery.
