Violet (Vi) Murray

January 21, 1903 — August 2, 2000

Violet (Vi) Murray, 97, a resident of Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown since July 1991, died there Wednesday, August 2, 2000 following a period of declining health.

She was born in Guys Mills, January 21, 1903, a daughter of Datus and Ida Hillard Hunter.  She married Don D. Murray October 11, 1924 and he preceded her in death March 9, 1974.

She was first employed at Spirella Corset Co., then at Firestone Tire Co. of Akron, then at Pete Simonetta's Red and White Grocery Store for 8 years and then owned and operated Murray's Red and White Grocery Store for 16 years until 1962.

She was a member of AARP.  She had enjoyed roller-skating and dancing.

Survivors include a brother, Rodney Hunter (Faleda) of Guys Mills; four nieces, Wanda Sutton, Ijenna Getty, Bonnie Leamer, Stephanie Snook, and Sandra Atkin; and one nephew, Roy Hunter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Guyla Morris, Grace, Genevieve and Evelyn Hunter and one brother, Karl Hunter.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
