Virginia M. Anderson, in her 100th year of life, of Conneaut Lake and formerly of Meadville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Juniper Village.
She was born December 7, 1917 in Meadville, a daughter of Charles and Harriet Sherick Hogue. She married Edward C. Anderson April 13, 1940 and he preceded her in death May 16, 1991.
Virginia was a 1935 graduate of Meadville High School. She worked as a secretary at the Meadville Junior High School for 9½ years and at the Crawford County Vocational Technical School for 13 years, retiring in 1981.
Virginia was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Roman Catholic Church and a former member of St. Brigid Church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America who recently recognized her for over 75 years of service, Conneaut Lake VFD Station 3, Conneaut Lake Park VFD Station 5, Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary, Oakland Beach Golf Course, and Conneaut Lake Historical Society. She enjoyed golfing, playing cards, traveling, and doing word puzzles.
Survivors include four children, Charles Anderson and his wife Ruth of Meadville, John Anderson and his wife Diane of Monument, CO, Mary Wagner and her husband Philip of Annapolis, MD, and Thomas Anderson and his wife Eileen of Nevada City, CA; nine grandchildren, Cheryl Richards, Cindy Phillips, John Anderson, Jr., Wendy Legault, Marc Anderson, Steven Miller, Charles Miller, Eve Anderson, and Dori Anderson; twelve great-grandchildren, Cole and Erika Richards, Grant and Paige Phillips, Tyler, Kelsey, and Cameron Anderson, Konner and Hailey Bemis, Peyton and Justine Anderson, and Christian Miller; two step-great-grandchildren, Brady and Jorden Legault; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Beatrice Hays, Harriet Curry, Charlotte Rekas, and Joan Bahurinsky and three brothers, Charles, Victor, and Dan Hogue.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at WAID-COLEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 12422 CONNEAUT LAKE RD., CONNEAUT LAKE with a Prayer Vigil service at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, 155 S. Ninth St., Conneaut Lake with Fr. Jeffrey Lucas as Celebrant.
Private interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
