Virginia Hood Emmel

Virginia Hood Emmel, 72, of Meadville, died Monday, December 9, 1985, at City Hospital following an extended illness.

Mrs. Emmel was born at Gardner, WV, April 23, 1913, a daughter of Ernest and Jeanette Wilcox Hood.  She married the Rev. Edwin D. Emmel December 16, 1950.  He survives.

She was a member of United Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer.  She was a 1931 graduate of Meadville Public Schools; a 1935 graduate of Allegheny College; and a 1939 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.  She was a Red Cross nurse from 1941 to 1948; director of nursing at City Hospital from 1948 through 1950; director of nursing at St. John's General Hospital, Pittsburgh, from 1951 through 1952; and then assisted her husband in his pastoral ministry.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, David L. Emerson of Hollywood, FL; and one grandson.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Lynford Hood.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
