Vora M. Long, 96, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville since June 1993, died there, Sunday, January 11, 2004.
She was born June 14, 1907 in Crawford Co. a daughter of Guy O. and Jennie Phelps Mickle. She married Durward V. Wellman May 22, 1931 and he preceded her in death November 7, 1954. She subsequently married Walter W. Long February 10, 1973 and he preceded her in death September 20, 1992.
She was a graduate of Rockdale School, Rockdale Twp., Crawford Co. and received her teaching certificate from Edinboro Normal School (now Edinboro University).
She taught in the public schools in Trafford, Harborcreek and Erie and also worked in the Erie Public Library System.
Over the years, she attended Cascade United Methodist Church in Erie, Girard Alliance Church and chapel services at Wesbury United Methodist Community. She was a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors, include a son, Ellis M. Wellman and his wife Marcia of Chardon, OH; a grandson, Reid O. Wellman of Hiram, OH; a stepdaughter, Betty L. Woods of Girard and a stepson, Paul Long of Florida. She was preceded in death by both her husbands, a stepson, George Long and a brother, Glenn P. Mickle.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-6 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Cribbs Chapel of Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville with the Rev. Ellen Rezek, Chaplain, officiating.
Burial will be in Miller’s Station Cemetery.
