W. Fred VanAmburg, 76, of Meadville, died Monday, December 19, 1988, at his home following an illness of five months.
He was born in Limestone, Clarion County, August 11, 1912, a son of William B. and Georgina Stewart VanAmburg. He married Elizabeth Bright, who preceded him in death in 1944. He subsequently married Beatrice Higby in 1953. She survives.
He retired in 1977 from Talon as head of the research and development department, after 39 years of service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a graduate of East High School in Erie. He was past president of YMCA of Meadville, Meadville Rotary Club and PA Unit of WBCCI (Air Steam Travel Group); and a member of Crawford Masonic Lodge 234 and Meadville Elks Lodge 219.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Jill VanAmburg of Anchorage, AK; three sons, William D. of Anchorage, Craig F. of Fairbanks, AK and Bruce E. of Melbourne, FL and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Malcolm and Donald.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Venango Cemetery.
