W. Kenneth Hurd

July 1, 1907 — June 24, 1986

W. Kenneth Hurd, 78, of Meadville, died Tuesday, June 24, 1986, at Meadville Medical Center following a sudden illness.

He was born in Utica, Venango County, July 1, 1907, a son of John C. and Mary Gertrude Carnahan Hurd.  He married Virginia Townley on June 17, 1939.  She survives.

Mr. Hurd had retired from Montgomery Ward Co. in 1972, where he had worked in sales.  He subsequently worked for six and one-half years for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a legislative aid to Sen. R. Budd Dwyer.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, the MCR class of the church, was an usher and former deacon and was also a long-time Sunday School teacher.  He was a member of Meadville Masonic Lodge 408, Timothy Alden Council 60 of Meadville, Solomon Royal Arch Chapter 191of Meadville, Northwestern Commandry 25 of Meadville, Zem Zem Shrine Club and the American Association for Retired Persons.  He was also serving as a Republican committeeman.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Carole) Matthews of Bay Village, OH; three sisters, Mrs. Sam (Freda) Tidd of Franklin and Mrs. Estes (Frances) Pickup and Mrs. Russell (Mildred) Shannon, both of Ft. Pierce, FL; two brothers, Frank Hurd of Ft. Pierce and Harold Hurd of Middletown; and a step-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Bernard.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
