Wallace H. Kebort

Wallace H. (Wally or Butch) Kebort, 79, of Meadville passed away at his home on Sunday morning, December 17, 2017.

Wally was born to Wallace and Rachael (McKinley) Kebort in Meadville February 6, 1938.  He married Joyce Carr on April 26, 1958, and she preceded him in death November 13, 2003.

Wally graduated from Meadville High School in 1956.  He enjoyed playing sports – football, baseball, softball, basketball, tennis, racquetball, golf and pool.  As a teenager, he won the City of Meadville tennis championship award two years in a row.  Through the years, he also enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and playing cards, especially euchre and pinochle.  Wally's mother taught him to knit when he was a child, and he helped her knit socks for the soldiers during World War II.

Wally retired from Multi-Tool in Saegertown, but he worked at several area tool shops over the years.  His working years began at Robbins Furniture Store, where he worked as a furniture mover at age 14.  He also worked at American Viscose and was a Crawford Central School bus driver.

Wally was a longtime member of Meadville Elks Lodge #219 and sought out sponsors for their annual basketball tournament for several years.  He was also a social member of Huidekoper VFW Post #2006 and West Mead Vol. Fire Dept. #2.

Wally is survived by two sons, Kenneth Kebort and his wife Kimberly of Saegertown and Brian Kebort and his wife Andrea of Hartstown; a daughter, Kimberly Higby of Lake City; three grandsons, Justin Kebort (Jessika) of Erie, Joshua Kebort of Cambridge Springs and Matthew Higby of Fort Collins, CO; three granddaughters, Kaylee Bennett (Sean) of Maryland, Breanna Kebort of Hartstown and Kelly Higby of Boston, MA; three great granddaughters; one great grandson; a sister, Linda McQueen of Meadville; a sister-in-law, Pat Carr of Meadville; a nephew, Christopher McQueen (Dana) of Mount Pleasant; two nieces, Jennifer Wanner (Brad) of Mechanicsburg and Miquelle Kleean (Thomas) of Meadville; two aunts, Lillian Daughtery of Franklin and Lila Steck of Elizabethtown, KY; an uncle, L. Richard Frantz of Franklin and several cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jeff Higby; three brothers-in-law, Gary Carr, George Carr and Harvey McQueen; three aunts, Phyllis Brown, Mary Miller and Patricia Frantz and three uncles, John McKinley, Mark McKinley, Jr. and James McKinley.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, INC, 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Kurtz officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials be made to Waid Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.
