Wallace William Stearns, Sr., 91 of Jackson Center, passed away on March 30, 2023 at AHN Grove City. Wallace was born in Washington County on February 28, 1932 to Ackley and Ruth (Murdock) Stearns. He attended Hadley and Fredonia Schools. He proudly served in the United States Army as a radio technician, being honorably discharged in 1955. He then served five years in the Army Reserves.
He worked at the former Sharon Steel Corp. as a roll grinder, retiring after 30 years. After retirement he stayed busy on his farm.
He was a member of Jackson Center Presbyterian Church.
Wallace married Martha Lou Foltz in 1955 by Rev. Russell Perry in the Mercer United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2013.
Together they had 2 children, daughter: Cathy Ann (Davis) Faunce and son: Wallace W. (Leanne) Stearns, Jr., grandchildren: Sara (William “Fudd”) Cipriano, Joshua (Tiffany) Stearns, Carrie (Louis) Geiger, and Matthew (Dorothy) Kress, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, one sister: Ruth Slater, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Wallace was preceded in death by sisters: Arka Persch, Sara Bennett, Alice Stahl, and Hazel Suroiu, and brothers: Wade Stearns, Robert Stearns, and Harold Stearns.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where visitation will be from 12 pm – 2 pm on Tuesday, April 4. Military Honors rendered by the V.E.T.S. Honor guard will follow at 2 pm and a funeral service will follow with the Rev. Beth Creekpaum, Officiating.
Private interment will take place in Perry Chapel Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Wallace’s name to the Jackson Center Presbyterian Church, VA Hospital – Butler, Diabetes Assoc, or the Cancer Foundation.
