Walter H. Thomas

Walter H. Thomas, 85, of Conneaut Lake and formerly of Pittsburgh, died Sunday, October 9, 2005, at Meadville Medical Center.

Born in Pittsburgh, February 15, 1920, he was a son of Edwin and Nora Ryan Thomas.  On June 16, 1948, at St. Mary of the Mt. Church in Mt. Washington, he married Mary Catherine Stack, who preceded him in death November 4, 1994.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Mt. Church.  Since moving to Conneaut Lake six years ago, he attended Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church.

He served with the US Army during World War II.  He retired from J and L Steel Co. of Pittsburgh in 1982 after 31 years of service with the plant's security force.

He was a member of Mt. Washington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5111.

He was a great baseball fan, and was noted for his pitching skills during high school and his service with the Army.

Time with his grandchildren was very precious to him.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Walter M. Thomas (Denise) of Conneaut Lake; five grandchildren and one son-in-law.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Ann Preklas; two brothers, Bill and George Thomas and three sisters, Harriet, Grace and Thelma.

Services were held with the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home.

Interment was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
