Walter Harold “Harold” Ash, 91, formerly of Harmonsburg and a current resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, died there Tuesday, October 23, 2012.
He was born August 7, 1921 in Venango, PA, a son of Walter A. and Georgia L. Ryan Ash. He married Alice June Bortner May 6, 1950 and she preceded him in death June 10, 1999.
Harold was a graduate of Cambridge Springs High School and worked as a mechanic for Girardat Transportation, retiring in 1986. He previously worked for Kebert Construction Company.
A member of Harmonsburg United Methodist Church, he was a former board member and past president of the Linesville, Conneaut, Summit School District and past president of the PA Automobile Inspector’s Association. He enjoyed fishing and especially being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Donald Ash and his wife Ruth of Lynchburg, VA; two grandsons, Joseph Harold Ash of Charlottesville, VA and Benjamin James Ash of Fairfax, VA; and a former daughter-in-law, Jenine Duke of Staunton, VA.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister.
Calling hours will be Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral and committal service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Philip Torre, Pastor of First Assembly of God, officiating.
Interment will be in Anderson Cemetery.
