Walter J. Prenatt

January 18, 1914 — January 23, 2003

Walter J. (Peanuts) Prenatt, 89, of Meadville, died Thursday, January 23, 2003 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community following an extended illness.

He was born in Guys Mills, January 18, 1914, a son of the late Leon G. and Alta Peese Prenatt.  He married Rose Marie Thayer in 1947 and she preceded him in death in 1981.

He was a graduate of Meadville High School and was a World War II Veteran with the U.S. Army National Guard including duty in the Battle of the Bulge.  He worked for General Electric in Erie, was a brakeman on the railroad, and was a repair and service technician for Spaulding Vending Company for several years before moving his family to Florida where he later retired.  He was a member of Meadville Elks Lodge 219, Saegertown American Legion Post 205, and Vernon Central Hose Company.  He was a kind and loving father and grandfather who had a great sense of humor.

Survivors include 4 sons, Terry Prenatt and his wife Sharon of Meadville; Richard Prenatt and his wife Suellen of Louisville, KY; David Prenatt and his wife Debbie of Conneaut Lake; and Jeffrey Prenatt and his wife Jeannie of St. Petersburg, FL; 2 daughters, Wanda L. Prenatt of Saegertown and Patricia DeBaise and her husband Tony of Orlando, FL; 2 sisters, Inez Prenatt and Ruth Benson, both of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren, Sam, Emily Rose, Nick, Jenna Rose, Anna Rose, and Julie Prenatt, Jodie Deal, Michael Hotchkiss, Mark McGowan, Lisa Guerrini, and Dedra Cavanaugh; great-grandchildren; a dear friend, Lillian Willis of Bemus Point, NY; and nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Hotchkiss; 3 brothers, Leon Jr., Bob, and Don Prenatt; and 4 sisters, Catherine Conrad, Thelma Brunot, Leila Theuret, and Anna Stevens.

Calling hours are Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581Chestnut St., Meadville followed by a Memorial service at 3 p.m. with Rev. Timothy Solomon, Pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by VFW Post 2006.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
