Walter L. Frazier

February 3, 1926 — April 8, 2013

Walter L. Frazier, 87, formerly of Conneaut Lake, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013 in Walnut Creek, CA following a brief illness.

He was born February 3, 1926 in Dormont, a son of Samuel and Minnie Belle Hookey Frazier, Jr.  He married his wife Rosemary December 26, 1959 and she preceded him in death May 14, 2003.

Walter enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17 years of age, served as a signalman in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II and later as part of the occupation force in Japan.  He was a graduate of Slippery Rock University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education and a graduate of Edinboro University with a Master of Arts degree in education.  He also earned a certification from radio school in Kansas City, MO.

Walter worked for 8 years as a civilian contractor in Tampa, FL, worked for the U.S. Postal Service at Conneaut Lake Park, Conneaut Lake, and Erie, taught at Farrell High School for one year, and subsequently was a math teacher at Linesville High School for over 30 years.  During his teaching career, he promoted advanced placement courses and encouraged students to achieve their full potential.

Walter enjoyed reading western novels, radio communication, woodworking, and boating and water skiing with his Century Resorter.

Survivors include a son, Matthew Frazier and his wife Mary of Clayton, CA; a daughter, Susan LeVan and her husband Joseph of Reading; and a sister-in-law, Ina Frazier of Sharon.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Frazier.

A memorial service will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake with the Rev. Dr. Glenn Hink, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, officiating and military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Assn., 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
