Walter L. Johnston

Walter (Walt) L. Johnston, 72, of Meadville died Tuesday November 28, 2017 at West Penn Hospital Pittsburgh.

He was born in Meadville September 15, 1945 a son of Earl and Esther Boyd Johnston.  He married Judy Teed August 14, 1965 and she survives.

He was a 1963 graduate of Randolph/East Mead High School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the US Navy on the USS Orion.  After his military service he returned to Meadville, working in tool and die his whole life.  He worked at Layke Tool, Trebor Tool, Bra-Vor Tool, Call Tool, Leech Tool and then was co-owner and founder of Trio Tool & Die and Plastics in 1977, where he worked until his retirement in 2014.

He enjoyed all sports playing in tool shop softball and bowling leagues.  He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking and was an avid hunter.  In his retirement, he and Judy enjoyed spending the winters in Ft. Myers, FL.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Judy of 52 years, include: three children, Kimberly Johnston and her companion Konstantinos Koubis of Raleigh, NC, David Johnston and his wife Renee of Orlando, FL and Darlene Johnston Deemer of Zelienople; four grandchildren, Seanasey and Racheal Johnston and Matthew and Grace Deemer; a sister, Anna Mae Ehrgott of Meadville; two brothers, James Johnston and his wife Arlene of Meadville and Robert Johnston and his wife Marilyn of Norfolk, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Johnston.

Calling hours will be Saturday, December 2nd from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Palmer, Walter’s nephew, officiating.  Military honors will be provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
