Walter L. Westfall, 78, of Meadville, died Sunday, January 1, 1995, at Meadville Medical Center, following a lengthy illness.
He was born October 16, 1916 in Clarksburg, WV, a son of Harley and Hazel Honcox Westfall. He married Twila Jannot Frantz April 14, 1965. She survives.
He worked at Wolff's Hardware for 25 years retiring in 1982 as manager of sporting goods. Prior to working at Wolff's, he worked as a meat cutter at National Meat Market for over 20 years.
He was an active sportsman, having been involved in football, baseball, softball and golf. He was one of the original organizers of Meadville Area Little League Baseball. After which he served as an officer for 15 years and a team manager for 12 years. He was a life member of Meadville Elks Lodge #219. He was also a life member of Eagles Aerie #429, where he served as president, trustee, house manager and former state officer, and was on the board of trustees when the bowling alley was established. He also was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Donald Westfall of Orlando, FL; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Connie) Garnet of Cortland, OH; two step sons, Paul Frantz of Farmington, ME and Gary Frantz of Powder Springs, GA; a brother, Donald Westfall of Baltimore, MD; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Westfall; a granddaughter, Donna Westfall and a sister, Winona Anderson.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
