Ward Hunter Sheets, 94, of Meadville, died Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Marquette Hospice House.
He was born September 5, 1921 in Green Bank, WV, a son of Arthur B. and Virgie V. Taylor Sheets. He married Mary C. Sheets May 25, 1944 and she preceded him in death June 6, 2003.
Ward was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He worked for Channellock, Palmer Forge Company, Meadville, as a tool and die maker for 25 years at Kaiser Aluminum Company, Erie, and was owner and operator of S & M Die Company, Meadville until his retirement.
Ward was a member and former Sunday school superintendent at Blooming Valley United Methodist Church and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, music and playing the guitar, and he could fix almost anything.
Survivors include a son, Dr. David W. Sheets of Oakland, MD; four daughters, Virgie G. Johnson of Oldsmar, FL, Darlene L. O’Daniels and her husband Ed Brautigam of New Port Ritchey, FL, Lynette Chapin and her husband Ron of Meadville, and Kathleen G. McDaniel and her wife Elizabeth Wood of Santa Fe, NM; seven grandchildren, Lisa Johnson-Firth and her husband William Major of Manassas, VA, Gregory Gilbert and his wife Christine of Kemmerer, WY, Todd Johnson and his wife Dana of Trinity, FL, Marc Johnson and his wife Heather of Mason, OH, Heather Clark and her husband William Todd of San Clemente, CA, Chad Chapin and his wife Ashley of Carlton, and Chase Chapin of Meadville; nine great-grandchildren, Sydney Hetland, William Todd Clark, III, Kyla Clark, Jessen Gilbert, Kennadi Gilbert, Will Johnson, Hope Johnson, Abigail Johnson-Firth, and Lillian Grace Major; a half-sister, Mrs. Thomas (Peg) Arcuri of Cleveland, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond B. Sheets and a half-brother, Jack A. Sheets.
Calling hour will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Marshall Lillie of Hospice of Crawford County officiating.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by VFW Post 2006.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, 24740 State St., Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., or the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Rd., all of Meadville, PA 16335.
