Wendell D. Shumaker

December 20, 1910 — October 27, 2008

Wendell D. Shumaker, 97, of Saegertown, died Monday, October 27, 2008 at Rolling Fields, Conneautville.

He was born December 20, 1910 in Armstrong County, PA, a son of the late Pritner and Martha “Matti” Mohney Shumaker.  He married Esther H. Adams May 28, 1937.

Wendell worked as a machinist and tool maker for 24 years at the American Viscose.  He subsequently worked as chief project engineer at GTI, Saegertown for 15 years and also farmed and worked in a brickyard and clay mine.

A member of the First Church of God, he was a former member of Meadville Masonic Lodge 408.  He enjoyed tool making and woodworking.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Esther of 71 years, include 2 daughters, Diane Rudler and her husband Herbert of Meadville and Joetta Knapp and her husband Richard, Sr. of Saegertown; a son, Wayne Shumaker of Pagosa Springs, CO; his twin brother, Randell Shumaker of Saegertown with whom they were the 3rd oldest set of living twins in the U.S.; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Twila Smith, Virginia Reddinger, and Elsie Harmon; and one brother, Frank Shumaker.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A funeral and committal service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Revs. Harold Ferraro and Temple Jarrell, Pastors of First Church of God, officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the First Church of God, 13226 Leslie Rd., Meadville, PA 16335.
