Werner C. F. A. Happe, 90, Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, formerly of Meadville, a former engineer at Talon, died Friday, September 13, 1991, at the care center.
He was born in Berlin Germany, June 12, 1901, a son of Fredriech Wilhelm and Helene Auguste Antonie Schott Happe. He married Virginia Smith in 1934. She preceded him in death in 1988.
He retired in 1966 from Talon where he worked 33 years as an engineer. He previously worked for Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co., Franklin.
He emigrated to the US in 1928 after receiving his engineering degree from the University of Berlin and working on a graduate degree at the Technical School of Munich. He was trained at the Berlin Conservatory as a classical pianist, and he played accompaniment for silent movies in Germany. Here he performed with the Meadville Civic Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the local musicians union. He taught private piano lessons until 1988. Happe was former president of Randolph-East Mead School Board. During World War II he raised pigeons. He also raised sheep and cultivated a Christmas tree farm.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Karlin) Marsh of Silverado, CA and two grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
