Wilford E. Miller

Wilford E. Miller, 96, of Guys Mills, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

He was born December 11, 1917 in Meadville, a son of Raymond and Stella Daniels Miller.  He married Lila Bird in 1941 and she preceded him in death in 1945.  He subsequently married Carolyn F. Boyd June 2, 1961 and she survives.

Wilford was a 1936 graduate of Meadville High School and a graduate of Allegheny College with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.  He worked at Avtex for 46 years, retiring in 1982.  He was responsible for converting the Avtex operations from manual to computer and following retirement he installed computers in many area businesses.

Wilford was a member of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills where he formerly served as financial secretary.  He was the president and operator of the Guys Mills Water Association for over 20 years, was a 60-year member of Meadville Masonic Lodge 408, and a member of the Meadville YMCA for many years where he had been active in the early morning group.  Wilford was instrumental in having natural gas service made available to the residents of Guys Mills and he had been an active runner and photographer for many years.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Carolyn of 53 years, include two daughters, Linda Lenhart and her husband Arthur of Lancaster and Mary Klingler and her husband Neil of Guys Mills; a son, Raymond Miller of Longwood, FL; thirteen grandchildren, Terry and Sharon Brown, Gregory Lenhart, Tammy Long, Timothy Lenhart, Miranda Sewell, Shane, Sarah, and Nate Klingler, and Olivia, Emma, Samuel, and Anna Miller; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Brown Elefsiades; a son, Carl Miller; a sister, Esther Moyer; a brother, Merideth Miller; and a son-in-law, Ray Brown.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. David Coddington, Pastor of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills, officiating.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
