William A. Bates, 62, of McClure Street, Conneaut Lake, died Friday, April 11, 2003 at the Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Meadville December 23, 1940 a son of the late John and Myrna Smith Bates.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School and was a veteran of the Korean War with the US Army. He worked over the years in a jewelry store in Pittsburgh, in auto sales at the former Vic Farrah Chevrolet, in appliance sales at the Sears store in the Park Avenue Plaza and most recently retiring in January from Thomas Rockwell Trucking Inc.
He was an avid musician and sang in several area bands and was a member of Meadville Elks Lodge #219 and the Harm Jan Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.
Survivors, include a son, William R. Bates of Azusa, CA; a stepson, Jeff Bradley of Sterling, VA; a companion, Patty Sweeney of Conneaut Lake; a step-granddaughter, Erin Nicole Bradley and several cousins.
Calling hours will be Monday from 6-9 p.m. ending with prayer service led by the Rev. Gerald H. Murphy, retired United Methodist Clergyman, followed by presentation of the Colors by VFW Post #2006 at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
Following cremation burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
