William Harold (Bill) Brooks, age 100, of Conneaut Lake, passed away after his battle with cancer, Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Born June 6, 1924, in East Fallowfield Township, William was the son of Raymond D. and Minnie (Mangold) Brooks.
William graduated from the former East Fallowfield High School in May 1942. He married Esther Ann Gelvin on June 7, 1947, who predeceased him 15 days earlier on January 10, 2025. Bill and Esther celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary June 6, 2024.
Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1945 – 1946 during World War II, spending 1 year in Germany. Bill retired from the Molded Fiberglass Tray Co, Linesville in 1989 after 30 years of service.
Bill and his wife Esther loved to travel; he visited every state except North Dakota. He was an avid golfer and bowler and served as Secretary for 22 years for the W.C.C.B.A. He was inducted into the Western Crawford County Bowling Hall of Fame in 1988, along with his wife Esther. Bill especially loved bowling, golfing, playing cards and bingo.
Bill was a member of Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church, a life member of Meadville Eagles Club #429 and a life member of the Linesville VFW Post #7842.
This year, Mr. Brooks was honored and recognized as the Grand Marshal at the 2024 Linesville Tractor Parade for his service to our country.
William is survived by his son, Lary Brooks (Eloise) and daughter, Sylvia Muha (Thomas); 4 grandchildren, Stephanie Baxter (Dave), William Brooks (Helen), Laurie Brooks, and Justin Rhoades; 5 great-grandchildren, Chance Scobbo, Tyler and Bailey Brooks, and Tanner and Morgan Rhoades; and 1 great-great-grandchild Gianna. His sister-in-law, Mary Jordan (John) also survives.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife Esther 15 days prior, his parents, and a brother Delmar Brooks.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake with Rev. Sam Heagy, Pastor of Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church, officiating. Meadville VFW #2006 will render military honors at the conclusion of service. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.
The burial will be private at Rocky Glen Cemetery, Adamsville.
