William Charles Gordon, 46, of Spartansburg, received the checkered flag at the golden finish line, Tuesday, June 27, 2006.
He was born on December 27, 1959 in Latrobe, a son of the late Robert Charles and Freida Louise Fennel Gordon.
He was a 1977 graduate of Maplewood High School and the Crawford County Vo-Tech School. At the Vo-Tech, he graduated from the automotive department, receiving a co-op position with Montgomery Ward Automotive Dept.. He continued to work in tire service & sales at numerous tire businesses in the Northwestern part of PA, including Hart Machinery and Good Tire Services both of Cochranton, with his brother John at Double G Tire Service in Guys Mills, George Ray Tire Service in Oil City, TPS of Erie, and finally at the Grinders Garage of Spartansburg.
He enjoyed racing stock cars, winning Rookie of the Year at the Tri-City Speedway in 1977. He was an avid NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan, never wanting to be interrupted while watching a race.
He also enjoyed competing in tractor pulls and bus racing and spending time hunting with his brother.
He is survived by a loving & caring companion Sandy Houser of the same address; his forever devoted family, including: two brothers, Thomas Elmer Gordon of Corry and John Brice Gordon and his wife Pam of Titusville; seven sisters, Clarabel Laune Zaginaylo and her husband John of Berwick, Caroline Mae Gordon of McLean, VA, Mildred Louise Brown and her husband John of Conneautville, Lewrose Myers of Townville, Margery Grace Gordon of Guys Mills, Betty Louella Clark and her husband Richard of Conneaut Lake and Florence Hazel Stang and her husband Richard of Harmonsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Charles Gordon in 1977 and Freida Louise Fennel Gordon in 2000; and an infant brother in 1964.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Kent Haines, Associate Pastor of the Cochranton Community Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Chapmanville Cemetery.
