William E. Waid, 82, of Meadville died at home Wednesday, June 29, 2016.
He was born November 17, 1933 in Meadville a son of Harold and Lila Adell Smith Waid. He first married Virginia Hopf and subsequently married Betty Sue Everhart and she preceded him in death.
He was a 1951 graduate of Meadville High school and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army from 1953-1955. He was an electrician for over 43 years with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 712 in Beaver, PA. He worked on construction projects all over the country until he retired in 1997.
He was a life member of Harm Jan Huidekoper VFW Post #2006 and Elks Lodge #219. He was a member of American Legion Post #381, Cambridge Springs, Vernon Central Hose Co. and West Mead #2 Vol. Fire Dept. He was also an over 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #408 and was a member and Past Monarch of Kismet Grotto.
He enjoyed golf and played in the Fireman’s League at Hailwood Golf Course and was an avid pool player, recently being recognized as one of the original members of the Park Avenue Amusements Pool League.
He is survived by a daughter, Ella Mae Strange and her husband Dennis of Galt, CA; a son, Ernest Waid and his wife Stacy of Meadville; his long-time companion Dorothy Waite of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Drew Longstreth, Brittany Waid, Zachary Waid, Kayli Hershelman, Shaina Hershelman, Taylor Hershelman, Austin Hershelman and Shantel Patterson; three great grandchildren, Paisley Mae, Ethan and Brayden and a niece and two nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Mae Bradshaw.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with the Masonic service at 6:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dave R. Brumagin, officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
