William Edward Giles, Jr., 74, of Meadville, died Thursday, May 13, 1999 at Meadville Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Pittsburgh, a son of the late William E. and Ferne Grubbs Giles, Sr. He married the former Mabel Sloan April 25, 1946, and she survives.
He came to Meadville in 1963 as Controller at Meadville City Hospital where he worked for 7 years. He then was employed by PPG Industries in Quality Control, retiring in 1980. He had attended Peabody High School, Pittsburgh, the University of Hawaii, and was a veteran of World War II with the US Amry in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #408, Meadville, and a Past Master of Sojourners Masonic Lodge, Pittsburgh. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodcarving.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Mrs. Anthony (Barbara) Yuhas of Farmington Hills, MI, Mrs. Kerry (Sandra) Corbett of Cambridge Springs and Rev. Patricia Deeter of Clinton; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Jill Corbett, Anthony Yuhas and Justin Deeter.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Giles.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
