William Erie Hall, 82, of 17269 Carline Dr., Meadville, died at home, Tuesday, August 8, 2006, after an illness of several months.
He was born in Meadville on January 13, 1924 a son of Ernest K. and Anna Haenel Hall, Sr. He married Irene Michael February 1, 1947, and she survives.
He retired in 1981 as an engineer with Conrail, after 31 years of service.
He graduated from Meadville Senior High School, and then served in the U. S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, was a local chairman for the Brothers of Locomotive Engineers for many years, and was a life member of the Vernon Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid sportsman, both as a participant as a young man, and a spectator for the rest of his life and he especially enjoyed being with his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 59 years, include 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren; Linda Corey and her husband Fred of Meadville, and their sons, Robert, Jameson, Brandon, and Benjamin; Karen Plummer and her husband Jerry of Columbus, IN and their children, Daryl Phillips and Clarissa Munn; Maryanne Stein and her husband Rex of Mercer; and their children, Nathan and Heather Stein and Rachelle Marstellar; one son, William E. Hall, Jr. of Meadville and his children, Emily and Kevin Hall; 3 sisters, Mary Ellen Edmonds and her husband Richard of Meadville, Betty Hipple and her husband Charles of Meadville and Isabelle Clark of Occoquan, VA, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Lillian Weir, Neva Marie Higby, Gay Hindle, Marian Badagliacca and Thelma Hall; one brother, Ernest K. Hall, Jr.; and twin granddaughters, Melissa and Jessica Hall.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
