William F. Mcgowan

William F. McGowan, 87, of Guys Mills and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center died there peacefully surrounded by family Friday, February 24, 2017.

He was born in Mercer November 19, 1929 a son of Francis and Ruth McCarl McGowan.  He married Leola Maxine “Macky” McGowan January 27, 1951 and she preceded him in death July 4, 2007.

He was a 1947 graduate of Meadville High School.  Following his high school graduation, he started his working career at Talon Inc.  He then was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army from 1951-1953.  Following his military service he returned to Meadville and continued his career at Talon where he worked for 44 years retiring in 1992 as Chief of Tool Engineering.

He is survived by two granddaughters, Brandi Stright and her husband Shane of Atlantic and Erin Bleutge and her fiancée Justin Day of Advance, NC; three great grandsons, Cory Alexander, Ethan Stright and Brady Stright; a brothers, Ronald McGowan and his wife Karol of Guys Mills; four sisters-in-law, Alice McGowan of Meadville, Lucille McGowan of Meadville, Christene McGowan of Canadohta Lake and Evelyn McGowan of Guys Mills and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynette Bleutge; an infant son, Jeffrey Scott; four brothers, Thomas L. (Tuck) McGowan, Robert A. McGowan, Paul C. McGowan and Richard McGowan and two sisters, Marjorie Ruth Hart and Marion Freyermuth.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Glen Van Cise, Pastor of Chapmanville Community Church, officiating and military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.

Interment will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
