William H. Sherman, 79, formerly of Vale Street, Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since October 2000, died there Thursday, April 11, 2002.
He was born in Meadville, July 17, 1922 a son of Harold Lee and Mabel Robishaw Sherman. He married Isabell Payne December 24, 1985 and she survives.
He worked in shipping, packaging and maintenance for National Teltronics in Meadville, he also worked as a handyman for Kress Realty and he had Bill’s Handyman Service here in Meadville. Previously he also worked as a master plumber in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was an avid gardener and loved teaching his grandchildren how to garden. He also enjoyed fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include six children, Norma Hites and her husband Walter of Trenton, IL, Lucile Menist and her husband Nick of Meadville, Cliff Prussia of Georgia, Russell Prussia and his wife Betty of Meadville, JoAnn Castile and her husband Billy of Meadville and Bonnie Kuhn and her husband Ken of Meadville; two sisters, Martha Rogers and Virginia LeGro both of Corning, NY; 14 grandchildren, Jesse Hites, Brenda Henricksen, John Prussia, Cliffy Prussia, Clinton Prussia, Nick Menist, Tina Page, Justin Wood, Nicole Prussia, Jim Castile, Jenn Gadeburg, David Kuhn, Doug Kuhn and Nate Kuhn and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Sherman a sister, Alice Sherman; a brother, Gordon Sherman and an infant brother.
Calling hours will be Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Daniel A. Kaufman, Pastor of the Allida Smith Wesleyan Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in East Spring Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335.
