William Henry Clough, 86, of Meadville, died Friday, January 04, 2002 at the Meadville Medical Center following a three-month illness.
He was born in Meadville, December 14, 1915, a son of Richard L. and Rebekah Frey Clough. He married Harriet Yocum October 11, 1941 and she survives.
He was the owner of Clough Jewelry Store for 28 years, which was located on Market Street in Meadville in the Jamison Hotel Building. He retired in 1978 when the hotel burned. He previously had worked at Talon for 10 years and had taught school at the Tampa Horological School in Tampa, FL.
He was a graduate of Weiser High School, Weiser, Idaho and he attended the University of Idaho, Allegheny College and Stewart’s International Jewelry School in Jupiter, FL.
He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army Air Corps. In the service he was a gunnery instructor on B17 bombers.
He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge #408, Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie, Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie and the Crawford County Shrine Club. He was Past President of the Meadville Exchange Club, a member of the board of directors of Allegheny Casualty Co. and was a volunteer with the Crawford County READ Program. He was a mentor to many young boys who had troubled adolescents. His hobbies included woodworking, carving and antique collecting and restoration.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 60 years, include: two sisters, Jean Cruikshank of Denver, CO and Helen Pence of Richmond, CA and several nieces and nephews.
No services are planned.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Masonic Building Fund, 21635 Star Route, Meadville, PA 16335 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
