William Pierce, 87, of Blooming Valley, died Sunday, February 19, 1989 at Meadville Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Pierce was born in New Eagle, August 10, 1901, a son of Joseph and Anna Byers Pierce. He married Cynthia Roudebush September 30, 1922. She survives.
He retired in 1970 from the former Erie-Lackawanna Railroad as a carman after 46 years of service. He was a member of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America.
He was a member and past master of Crawford Masonic Lodge 234, Meadville. He was a former justice of the peace in Blooming Valley and was a member of the former Blooming Valley School Board.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Mrs. Benn (Joanna) Leacenworth of Saginaw, MI and Mrs. Myles (Thora) Schweitzer of Clermont, FL; one son, Harry R. Pierce of Guys Mills; son sister, Idabelle Gruber of Meadville; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bess Doyle and two brothers, Richard Pierce and Charles Pierce.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
