William R. Baker, 87, of 14343 State Hwy. 285, Conneaut Lake, died Friday, October, 6, 2006 at UPMC – Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh as the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
He was born in West Middlesex, PA April 12, 1919 a son of Christopher and Mary Elizabeth Davis Baker. He married Margaret Sentelik September 12, 1952 and she survives.
He worked as an auto mechanic at Virgil Kean’s Garage in Conneaut Lake for over 30 years. After Kean’s closed he opened Baker’s Garage in 1986 and was joined by his son Steve in the business in 1990. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and was well known in the automotive community at the various car dealerships and auto supply stores.
He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army and a former Oddfellow. He never missed any of his son Steve's sporting events and later any of his grandsons sporting events. He was also a long suffering Cleveland Indians and Browns fan.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Margaret of 54 years, include: one son, Steve Baker and his wife Sarah of Conneaut Lake; two grandsons, R.J. Baker and Cole Baker and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Violet McLaughlin and three brothers, Harold, Gene and Russell Baker.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake.
